What Wyze actually is

Wyze is a budget-focused smart-home brand that short-term rental hosts reach for when they need affordable exterior cameras, smart plugs, and entry kits. It is a hardware plus optional subscription model rather than a property management integration, and it pairs a usable free tier with a cheap cloud recording upgrade.

Core features

Wyze Cam exterior cameras starting around $29.98
Airbnb Side-Hustle Starter Pack bundle ($189.99) with doorbell, smart lock box, keypad, plugs and night lights
Cam Plus cloud recording at $2.99/month per camera
Free tier with microSD local recording, live view, and motion alerts
Alexa and Google Assistant voice control
IFTTT applets for custom automations

Pros

Cameras start at ~$36 — about a fifth of a comparable Google Nest Cam Indoor
Free tier is genuinely usable without a subscription
$189.99 Airbnb Side-Hustle Starter Pack bundles doorbell, lock box, keypad, plugs and night lights
Cam Plus cloud storage is among the cheapest in the category

Cons

Motion alerts take a couple of seconds to arrive
Users report occasional WiFi connectivity issues affecting live streams
No official integrations with Hostfully, Hostaway, Guesty or other vacation-rental PMS tools
No official public API — PMS connectivity depends on unofficial community projects

Best for

Budget-conscious hosts with 1-5 properties who want affordable exterior cameras and a starter smart-home kit

Not for

Operators who need real-time alerts, PMS integrations, or enterprise-grade monitoring

1–5 listings

Small portfolios

Great fit

If you run 1-5 listings and just need cheap exterior cameras plus a basic smart-home kit, Wyze is the most affordable credible option.

5–20 listings

Mid-sized portfolios

Okay fit

Workable for a 6-20 property operator who wants exterior-only coverage, but the lack of PMS integrations means Wyze stays a side system rather than part of ops.

20–100 listings

Large portfolios

Niche fit

At 20+ listings you'll want enterprise-grade smart-lock and monitoring vendors with APIs and SLAs — Wyze has neither.

Airbnb primary

Airbnb-first hosts

Great fit

Wyze explicitly courts Airbnb hosts with exterior cameras that comply with the indoor camera ban and a dedicated starter bundle.

Vrbo primary

Vrbo-first hosts

Okay fit

The hardware value story holds for Vrbo hosts too, but there's no Vrbo-specific tooling and no PMS integrations to automate around.

3+ channels

Multi-channel operators

Niche fit

Wyze is channel-agnostic hardware and has no multi-channel orchestration — if you run multi-channel ops, the smart-home layer should integrate with your PMS, which Wyze can't do.
